Stay active

Engaging in regular exercise can make a difference for your brain as well as the rest of your body. Find ways to get your body moving, like going for a walk or joining an exercise class. Make sure to include activities that raise your heart rate and increase blood flow to the brain and body.

Manage health conditions

Keeping high blood pressure, diabetes, and obesity under control can also help protect your brain. Talk to your doctor about whether you are at risk for developing any of these conditions and how diet, exercise, and medication could help.

Challenge your mind

Your brain needs exercise, too! Stay mentally active and learn a new skill, engage in artistic activities, or play games that involve strategy.

Get a good night’s sleep

Remember to give your brain time to rest and recharge. The amount of sleep needed changes as we age, but most adults should aim for 7-9 hours of quality sleep every night. Try limiting screen use before bed, creating a peaceful environment, and sticking to a consistent sleep schedule.

Eat well

Food powers your brain, so make sure to eat a healthy, balanced diet. Find meals and snacks that you enjoy that have lots of vegetables, leaner meats and proteins, and foods that are less processed.
